Every Story Matters. Every Share Spreads Awareness.
Through social media, The Tarlov Initiative is working to raise awareness of spinal meningeal cysts by sharing educational resources and amplifying the voices of the patients, caregivers, and loved ones impacted by this condition.
At the heart of this effort is The Human Behind the Scan, a weekly storytelling series that puts real people at the center of the conversation. By connecting personal experiences with education, we aim to foster understanding, build community, and bring greater visibility to a condition that deserves to be recognized.
The Human Behind the Scan
One person. One story. One week of awareness.
Each week, we spotlight a different patient, caregiver, or loved one whose life has been touched by spinal meningeal cysts. We share their experiences, highlight the ways the condition has impacted their lives, and connect their stories to educational content that helps our community learn and understand more.
Every Week We Will:

Center a real experience
Introduce a patient, caregiver, or loved one and share their unique perspective.
Connect stories with education
Connect stories with education
Explore the condition, symptoms, challenges, and related topics through the lens of that week's story.
Amplify voices and awareness
Encourage our community to engage, learn, and share each story so it reaches more people.
Awareness grows when we share
You don't have to be a patient to make a difference. Whether you are living with spinal meningeal cysts, supporting someone who is, or learning about the condition for the first time, your voice can help spread awareness.
01
Tell Your Physician
Make the effort to bring up symptomatic spinal meningeal cysts to your doctor. Within the next month we will have a one-pager and brochure to give out available for download.
02
Share Your Story
Your experience matters. If you or someone you love has been impacted by spinal meningeal cysts, consider sharing your journey with The Tarlov Initiative.
03
Help Spread Awareness
Follow along, engage with our educational posts, and help bring greater visibility to a condition that deserves to be understood.
Your story could help someone feel less alone
Every experience adds to a greater understanding of life with spinal meningeal cysts. By sharing your story, you can help others feel seen, support greater awareness, and remind someone that they are not alone in their journey.
Not everyone wants to participate in a full week-long feature, and that’s okay! If you prefer a simpler way to share your experience, we can feature your story on our website and create quote graphics for our social media channels to share your words and raise awareness. Whether you share your full journey or just a few words about your experience, your voice matters.
Stories would be shared only with the contributor's permission and in accordance with the initiative's submission and privacy guidelines.
